Fannish musings: SVU fics
Dec. 3rd, 2016 02:02 pmUnder the cut.
These are the stats for relationships on AO3..
Rafael Barba/Dominick "Sonny" Carisi Jr. (290)
Olivia Benson/Alexandra Cabot (289)
Olivia Benson/Elliot Stabler (238)
Rafael Barba/Olivia Benson (235)
Rafael Barba/You (160)
Rafael Barba/Reader (157)
John Munch/Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (150)
Rafael Barba/Original Female Character(s) (147)
Dominick "Sonny" Carisi Jr./Reader (63)
Olivia Benson/Ed Tucker (55)
Whoa. Barba and Carisi beat out Alex and Olivia..barely, but the trend is clear. If we put the Barba/you and Barba/reader fic together they win..add Barba/OFCS and yeah. People love doing Barba/self-inserts. Munch and Fin are higher than Tuckson at least.
Additional tags are:
Romance (334)
Fluff (311)
Established Relationship (219)
Angst (219)
Humor (167)
Alternate Universe (138)
Friendship (132)
Hurt/Comfort (116)
Smut (100)
Crossover (79)
A lot of romance, and fluff, and more H/C than smut.
I can dig Barba/Carisi, but not the Barba/self-inserts. Oh well, people will ship what they want. I should be the change, but I'm not feeling inspired.

Date: 2016-12-03 01:20 pm (UTC)that I don't want to read. At least OFC stories can sometimes be good if the author isn't just writing a blatant Mary Sue, one step above a "reader" fic anyway.I'm really over Barisi fic at this point. At first I was, "Okay, I can maybe sort of see it", but very little of the fic has felt like anything more than Any Two Guy, generic out of character fluff and smut to me. (Another reason I wish Mike Dodds had stuck around; I really liked the potential for Dodds/Carisi more, and maybe if he'd lasted longer than a season that could have taken off? Also the one or two Barba/Dodds pieces I read were excellent and I would have loved to see that ship sail.) Also the fandom over on Tumblr for Barisi annoys the hell out of me a lot of time; some of them are so aggressive about insisting the ship will become canon, or that if it doesn't the writers have been "queerbaiting" them, I just can't deal with it. Personally they've made me ship Sonny & Amanda more, kind of out of spite :)
At least I can feel proud that before I got into Munch & Fin just about a year ago, there were less than 30 Munch/Fin fics on the site. Between me and ThetaSigma we really pushed that number up—and I do sort of see it as a personal mission to keep Munch & Fin at least in the top ten ships, LOL.
What's interesting to me too is if you go over to Fanfiction.Net in comparison? It's still predominantly EO and Cabenson dominating, and still some Rollaro shippers, too. I just wish the quality of the writing was better overall at FF.N, because there do seem to be more writers interested in telling longer stories that are more plot driven than just romance and smut (not that there's anything wrong with those things, I just like some more variety!)

Date: 2016-12-03 04:39 pm (UTC)Nice work on Munch/Fin.
I kinda thought Ffn would be more old-school somehow..too bad about fic quality, though I'm sure there are good ones there too.
